One question that could change it all
Good morning! It’s Sunday, August 3rd. Welcome to One Minute Weekend.
I’ve been spending a lot of time with a friend of mine who is sick.
We’ve been talking a lot about life and death.
Not everyone is comfortable going there, but I find it strangely beautiful.
I love this person very much, they’ve been a huge influence in my life and I hold them deeply in my heart.
Being with them through this has reminded me how much I leave love unspoken.
And how easily I say it, but forget to show it.
It made me realize that in this presence of mortality, love is really all there is.
And if we are all mortal beings, then is there anything more important than love?
Through this reflection, I find myself turning to this question every day when I wake up:
Who do you love and what are you doing about it?
We love our kids, our partners, our friends, and maybe we tell them that often, but what does love look like in action?
Sometimes it’s just being quiet and listening to someone as they express something vulnerably.
Sometimes it’s letting them pick the restaurant even though you know it’s going to be garbage.
Sometimes it’s telling someone the truth even though it might hurt.
What I’ve come to realize is that love is a verb.
It’s a practice and a choice we make every single day whether we acknowledge it or not.
Love in action, when fully felt and expressed, allows for a total integration of presence.
Shared experiences are elevated, senses are heightened and conditions, judgements and barriers are broken down to create freedom.
It sounds like a rare experience, but a lot of us are lucky to have this available to us every day, we just forget to do anything about it.
Some might say there’s nothing to do about it, but I disagree.
Love isn’t something we simply say, it’s something we do consistently.
So, take a minute and reflect with me here on this beautiful Sunday morning…
Who do you love, and what are you doing about it?
Much Love,
Cory Firth
